On the morning of Friday, March 11, 2016, District XI FBLA boarded buses headed for Orlando. The 2016 State Leadership Conference had begun. Everyone was eager to compete and excited to make new memories that would help leave our legacy. Students participated in everything from competition to workshops to hanging out by the pool.
Our first general session was Friday night. Several awards were handed out to chapters for participating in statewide projects. River Ridge was recognized for participaing in March of Dimes and Relay for Life. River Ridge also was awarded the Gold Seal Chapter Award of Merit for being exceptionally active and involved in the FBLA community.
The next time we gathered together was the second general session on Sunday morning. Our guest speaker, Kaitlin Roig-Debellis, was a first grade teacher from Sandy Hook Elementary School in Monroe, Connecticut. She shared her story of pursuing her dreams which led her to a life changing moment: the shooting at Sandy Hook. Almost everyone in the room shed a few tears and all were inspired by Ms. Debellis’ story.
Sunday night, the state gathered together one last time for the awards ceremony. Not only did District XI ROCK the ceremony, Mrs. Maryanne Myer was recognized with the Honorary Lifetime Member Award. Click here to watch the full video. Congratulations to all the schools that competed!
Special congratulations to Ridgewood High School for starting a new chapter this year and placing at states! We would also like to congratulate Land O’ Lakes High School and advisor Mrs. Martin for having the most wins in our district. Great job guys!
